This course will provide an overview and introduction into the basic concepts of U.S. immigration law and procedure pertaining specifically to family- and employment-based visas. Included in the class is a step-by-step workshop on which forms should be filed and how they should be completed.
Additionally, the CLE will discuss the many different types of visas from the B-1 and B-2 to the H-1b, TN and E-3s. Additionally, Student visas F,M and J and family based visas K-1 through K-4 along with other family- and employment-based visas will be also be covered.

Attorney Jennifer Nissen
Hochstatter, McCarthy, Rivas & Runde S.C. – Milwaukee, WI
Jennifer Nissen has been an immigration attorney with Hochstatter, McCarthy, Rivas & Runde since January 2005. Ms. Nissen's practice areas include both employment-based and family-based immigration. Ms. Nissen works with employers in obtaining temporary work visas and permanent resident status for their foreign employees. Nonimmigrant visa practice areas include: B-1/B-2, E-1, E-2, E-3, H-1B, J-1, L-1, O-1 and R-1. Ms. Nissen also assists individuals with obtaining permanent resident status and citizenship in the United States.
Ms. Nissen graduated cum laude from the University of Wisconsin Law School in Madison, Wisconsin in May 2005. During law school, Ms. Nissen was a member of the Moot Court Board and participated in the Wisconsin Innocence Project. She obtained a Bachelor's degree in Sociology from the University of Wisconsin – Madison in December 1998. Between those academic programs, she spent a year working as an Americorps*VISTA volunteer and two years working in social services.
Ms. Nissen is a member of the Wisconsin Bar Association, the American Immigration Lawyers Association, and the International Medical Graduates Taskforce. Ms. Nissen has studied Spanish in Guatemala.

Attorney Kelley A. Chenhalls
Hochstatter, McCarthy, Rivas & Runde S.C. – Milwaukee, WI
Kelley Chenhalls has been working with the law firm Hochstatter, McCarthy, Rivas & Runde, S.C. since 2002. She graduated cum laude from Marquette University Law School and was admitted to practice law in Wisconsin in May 2003. Her practice areas include both employment- and family-based immigration as well as the following: nonimmigrant visas such as H-1B, E-3, L-1, O-1, and J-1; religious worker visas; temporary protected status; naturalization; and permanent residence for professionals. In particular, Ms. Chenhalls' practice focuses on the medical field, working with doctors, scientists and other medical professionals to achieve their immigration goals. In that niche area, she files PERM applications, J-1 waiver applications, NIW petitions for both physicians and advanced degree professionals, and EB-1 petitions for outstanding professors/researchers and individuals with extraordinary ability.
Ms. Chenhalls is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) and is the incoming Chair of the Wisconsin Chapter. She has been the Vice Chair for the Chapter from 2011 to 2012, and served as Treasurer from 2007 to 2011. Ms. Chenhalls also is a member of the Wisconsin Bar Association, as well as the International Medical Graduates Taskforce, where she serves on the Calls Committee.
In 2004, Ms. Chenhalls was awarded a master's degree in Political Science – International Affairs by Marquette University. She also graduated cum laude with an Honors Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Marquette University in 1999. She taught English and U.S. history in Grindsted, Denmark. She studied Spanish in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, and can speak and write in Spanish.
Ms. Chenhalls is passionate about immigration law and has been active in her support for immigration reform. She participated as a Legal Observer at the May Day March of Voces de la Frontera in 2010, and has lobbied for immigration reform in Washington, D.C. while working as a Coordinator for AILA's National Day of Action in 2012.
