Elder Law: Basics of Elder Law From A-Z
The course covers the issues presented in representing older clients and those who are providing care for older clients. It will address ethical issues such as confidentiality and conflicts of interest, family and advisor involvement and conflict/confidentiality waivers. It will examine preventive documents such as powers of attorney and trusts and their use, along with determinations of incapacity and the attorney's duties regarding the same, an overview of elder abuse laws and elder resources, the conservatorship/guardianship process for those needing court oversight of the care of their person and/or estate, and will end with an overview of Medicaid eligibility and planning.

Attorney Christopher B. Johnson

U.S. Trust – Pasadena, CA

Christopher B. Johnson has joined U.S. Trust as a Senior Vice President and Senior Trust Officer, serving Southern California high net worth and ultra high net worth families in their wealth transfer planning and with trust services.

He is a 1994 graduate of Pepperdine University School of Law in Malibu, California. He was a Dean's Scholar, and an extern at the legal department of Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., and for the Honorable Barry Russell, Judge of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court and Bankruptcy Appellate Panel. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Wheaton College in 1991. He is admitted to practice in all California state courts and the United States District Court, Central District.

Prior to establishing his own practice and acting in an association of counsel role to prestigious law firms in Southern California, he was a founding member of the Arroyo Law Group, Russakow | Ryan | Johnson, and his own estate planning and probate practice in Pasadena, as well as a civil litigation lawyer for the Law Office of Errol Berk in Ventura. He has appeared on NBC-TV news and radio programs to discuss estate planning and probate issues. He is a member of the Trusts & Estates sections of the Los Angeles County and Pasadena Bar Associations, and the City of Hope Music and Entertainment Industry Committee.
