Medical Experts & Medical Records: Proper Use in Civil Litigation

Learn how to decode medical jargon and symbols and withdraw key information from medical experts. This CLE will discuss how to obtain the evidence needed by knowing: where to look, how to analyze medical charts and diagnostic test results, and comprehend medical terminology and symbols. Additionally, the class will discuss the proper use of medical experts and how to question opposing experts effectively.

Attorney Robert Kingsland

Mr. Kingsland is a founding shareholder of Dempsey and Kingsland, P.C. in Kansas City, Missouri. Mr. Kingsland has lectured on numerous occasions on topics related to civil trial practice. He has also co-authored various published articles on civil trial practice. He is a current and longstanding member of the board of governors of the Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys. Mr. Kingsland previously was a longstanding member of the board of directors of the Jackson County Law Library. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree and Law degree from Georgetown University. He is member of the bar of the United States Supreme Court among many others.

Attorney Gary S. Weisman

Gary S. Weisman leads Older, Lundy & Weisman's catastrophic personal injury and insurance coverage practice group.
Before becoming the leader of the firm's personal injury and insurance coverage practice, Gary practiced statewide, focusing on catastrophic injury claims and insurance coverage issues. He was previously employed at Fowler White Boggs Banker and Swope, Rodante, P.A. Gary has served as lead counsel and co-counsel on numerous insurance bad faith, wrongful death and catastrophic injury matters. He has represented both corporations and individuals against insurance companies that wrongfully denied claims.
Gary routinely presents continuing legal education lectures in the areas of insurance coverage, insurance bad faith, personal injury litigation, use of medical records, ethics, closing arguments, and negotiation. He is a member of the Hillsborough County Bar Association, Tampa Bay Trial Lawyers Association, the Florida Justice Association, and currently serves on the Florida Bar Association's Consumer Protection Committee. Gary previously served on the Board of Directors of the Tampa Bay Trial Lawyers Association, and also on the Florida Justice Association Insurance Task Force. He participates in law education programs in the Hillsborough County School District, including having coached several high school mock trial teams. Gary currently serves on the Board of Directors at the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay. He has served as a volunteer with the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program, the American Cancer Society, and the American Diabetes Association.
Gary received his Juris Doctorate from the Florida State University's College of Law in 1999. While at Florida State University, he was a member of both the Moot Court and Mock Trial teams. Gary also participated in Oxford University's summer law program. While in law school, he was appointed as a legislative intern in Florida's House of Representatives. Gary earned his Bachelor of Arts from The George Washington University in 1996 with a major in political communication and minor in journalism.
